HOT OFF THE PRESS - ROMANCING THE ROSE IS A WINNER!!

NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO OF ART BY WENDY
That's me with my Rose!!

Romancing the Rose has gained a new audience, her dramatic look and inspirational colours have caught the eye of the jurers at the ARTS 2013 juried show at the Surrey Arts Center.  I was thrilled to win Honarable Mention in the Painting on Paper Category for the show.  It is a really tough show to get in with all of their entries so needless to say I am THRILLED!!  The show opened last night and will run til Aug 31 so when you are in the area check it out.
Romancing the Rose was the second piece I have tried with the texturing paste and since then I completed a larger piece Poppies in the Spring which also turned a few heads at its debut two weeks ago.  I must say I love the textured look of the palette knife but yet the magic of watercolour is still very much there.  Enjoy the works and enjoy the lovely long weekend, HAPPY CANADA DAY!!

Standing Tall from Art Demo at Paints'n Bloom Show

NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO OF ART BY WENDY
This is me with one of the art demos at our show

Have you ever felt that those special moments you plan for suddenly fly by and are gone?  Audrey and I had been working on our Spring Show, Paints'n Bloom - June 14 & 15, for ages at West Coast Garden Center and already it is over and now a memory.  How does that happen?

As you can see from the pictures the demos and the show went well.  It really is a wonderful venue to display art.  We had a great time and many people commented on how much they enjoyed our show.  We were very pleased with the donation we were able to make to the Alzheimer's Society after the show.
Below is my picture "Standing Tall" which was part of my demo.  I have used molding paste as an undercoating and then painted watercolour over that.  Now that it is finished I can share it with you.  I really do enjoy some of the effects I can get with this combination.

STANDING TALL - 7 X 10 - unframed $250
Have a great day!

Poppies in the Spring

NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO OF ART BY WENDY
POPPIES IN THE SPRING - 20 x 24 Framed $800

Have you see the Poppies this Spring?  They have been beautiful.  Their lovely bright colours, large petals and wonderful lines make them very popular with artists everywhere.  This picture is my latest and uses a new technique I have been working with: Texturing Paste with Watercolour. It really creates the heavy brush strokes that thick oils and acrylics have but allows the colours to blend and  change in a way only watercolour can do.  The best of all worlds!
I will be demoing this technique at our show Paints'n Bloom tomorrow, Friday, June 14 at West Coast Garden Center.  Audrey Bakewell and myself are the featured artists in the show.  Her demo "Using the Elegant Writer Pen with Watercolour" is at 11:00am and my demo "Texturing Paste with Watercolour" is at 1:30pm.  The show runs Friday and Saturday, June 14 & 15, 10-4pm. It is in support of the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.  Donations will be collected and a percentage of the art sales goes directly to the Society.  A large selection of information for Alzheimer Resources in the community will be available.  See you there.
West Coast Garden Center: 1420 172 St., S Surrey  ( They are working on 16 Ave. so access off 24 Ave or 8 Ave to 168 St., detour is marked on the roads)

Little Rosebud - Hints of life to come!!

NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO OF ART BY WENDY
Little Rosebud - 3.5 x 2.5 - Watercolour  Framed: $115
MINIATURE ART

Are you ready for summer?

The grass is growing, the barbeque is warm and the flowers are out.  This little rosebud is ready to unfold into a lovely flower.  Yes, my roses are starting to flower and I find I am always torn.  I do love the flowers in full bloom but there is something about the rosebud that attracts me; their variation in colour, their promise of beauty and their simple lines and folds.  This little bud is from one of my roses in the garden, enjoying the last rays of sun in the late afternoon.  Soon it will be open and then gone but for now, the promise of things to come!  Enjoy.
As always, cards and prints are available for all of my pictures, starting at $3.50 for cards.
